There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den betting is banned. Eight casinos are established in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime destination, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many borders.
The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that features a number of amenities in addition to the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and eighty eight tables.
